The “Lamm” has been an inn for about 200 years. There are no longer any exact records, but according to the anecdotes and stories of the elder villagers, the building is supposed to have been constructed at the beginning of the 19th century and from the very start it served as an inn.
In 1897 the village of Taufers was twice devastated by fire and the Lamm was not spared, being burned down to its foundations. However, the then owner, Alois Laganda, who had purchased the inn in 1892 from his brother Andreas, immediately began to rebuild it. He continued to run the inn until 1919 and then sold it to Johann Fliri, who then sold it on to Josef Pinggera in the mid 1920s.
In 1931 the inn came into the possession of the Steiner family, when our grandfather, Alois Steiner, purchased it. He extended the second floor, which until then had been an attic, and turned it into guest rooms, thus laying the foundations for today’s hotel business. In 1963 our grandfather handed the business to his son, and our father, Heinrich Steiner. In 1964 the first improvements and extensions were made, overseen by the architect, Mr. Meusburger. It was then that the renowned Austrian painter Mr Jussl from Vorarlberg painted the cupboards and guest beds that are still here and used today.
In 1974/75 a second extension was built. Far ahead of the times, the first indoor pool with sauna in the Vinschgau was built. Today’s panoramic dining room, with its views over the entire Münster Valley was also built at this time.
The old main house, which in the meantime had become somewhat dilapidated, was demolished in 1982 and replaced by a new building. Many more small and larger improvements have been made up until the present day, all with aim of ensuring that we can continue to offer our guests contemporary comforts.
In 2004, Heinrich Steiner’s traditional hotel was handed down to his son, Andreas.
In 2005, from the end of January until the middle of May, the Hotel Lamm underwent a further renovation. The rooms in the oldest part of the building were extended and the reception area was given a new, homely make over. In addition, the sitting room was newly decorated and comfortably refurnished. The “VitaLamm” sauna area with indoor pool, parlour sauna, steam bath, multi-sensory showers, Kneipp pool and unique two-level panoramic quiet room were built. The massage and fitness rooms were also refurbished.
The 3-star Hotel Lamm became the 3-star S Natur-Aktiv Hotel Lamm.
One year later – in 2006 - four more rooms were renovated and furnished with homely charm. At the same time, in line with the Natur-Aktiv concept, a large riding arena was built, with 7 horses.
A truly special highlight opened in 2007 - our health, fitness and beauty spa with its 360º view of the Vinschgau Valley. New attic suites and double rooms were added on and some rooms in the main building were spruced up. Once the renovation work was completed, the Natur-Aktiv Hotel Lamm was awarded a fourth star.
