2 National Parks in the Border Triangle

National Parks

Taufers im Münstertal borders on two national parks: in the south, the Stilfserjoch National Park and in the west, the Swiss National Park.

The Stilfserjoch National Park covers an area of 134,620 hectares in the middle of the central Alps. It includes the entire Ortler-Cevedale mountain massif and its side valleys.
The Stilfserjoch National Park is one of the largest and most interesting protected areas in Europe. All kinds of alpine features can be found in the park, from the glaciated high mountains, alpine pastures and terraced slopes to the valley floors.
The landscape is shaped by the coexistance of unspoilt nature and a centuries-old history of cultivation through alpine farming and forestry.

The Swiss National Park – Wildlife encounters in the great outdoors
The Swiss National Park covers an especially impressive area of Alpine landscape, which is rich in animal and plant life. In this habitat, nature has been left to develop unrestrictedly and man takes a back seat, witnessing the dynamic processes that give this landscape its incomparable character.
The Swiss National Park, at 172 km2, is the largest protected area in Switzerland and the country’s only national park.
